Deck Brighteners
Wood Deck Brighteners, Deck Wood Neutralizers
What is brightening? Deck cleaners and wood deck brighteners (also called deck wood neutralizers) are used to remove gray, tannin, and rust marks from a wood surface. Gray and/or black are the natural colors of the exterior of dead wood. It becomes gray because ultraviolet rays from the sun kill the top layer of cells, leaving the wood left behind looking lifeless and dull. DeckGeneral Wood Brighteners are a non-flammable brightener and rejuvenator that is safe and effective on exterior wood surfaces such as decks, fences, outdoor furniture, log homes and hardwood. DeckGeneral's oxalic acid wood brighteners quickly and safely restore UV damaged, gray and weather wood to its natural color and beauty. These DeckGeneral natural neutralizers, including deck cleaners and brighteners, also lift away tannin, rust, nail stains and invisible coating barriers, such as mill glaze and from wooden surfaces, enabling proper adhesion and penetration of subsequent coatings.
For maximum results, use DeckGeneral Wood Deck Brightener as the final step to neutralize and brighten wood surfaces that have been treated or cleaned with DeckGeneral Deck Stripper or DeckGeneral Wood Restorer.
BENEFITS OF deck brightening:

WHy deckgeneral:
Unfortunately, not all wood deck cleaners and brighteners are created equally. Usually, deck wood neutralizer products that contain some form of chlorine bleach, or sodium hypochlorite, have the ability to take away gray/dull areas while at the same time break apart wooden fibers which makes it difficult for stains and sealers to penetrate into wood properly. This is why so many homeowners only get a single season out of their stains and sealers. Our nontoxic wood cleaners and deck brighteners use oxalic acid and are bleach free! Oxalic acids are particularly effective at removing tannin stains and iron stains (a particular consideration with cedar and redwood decks.) Oxalic acid is not as effective against mildew. If you have a mildew problem, try a cleaner made with bleach before using oxalic acid wood deck brightener to attack the tannin and iron stains.
